    Financial Services Compensation Scheme

The statutory safety net that can pay out if an authorised firm fails.

The FSCS can compensate customers of authorised financial firms that have gone out of business. Cover levels and eligibility differ by product type, and general insurance is treated differently from deposits or investments. It applies only to firms that were authorised, which is another reason to check the Financial Services Register before buying.
