Postponement
An insurer declining to assess an application yet, and inviting it again after a set period.
A postponement is not a decline. Where a medical event is recent, an investigation is in progress or treatment has just changed, an underwriter may postpone the application until the position is clearer, then consider it on its merits. The period varies by insurer, product and circumstance. Cover already in force is unaffected by a postponement on a new application, which is why cancelling an existing policy before a new one is accepted is rarely a good idea.
