    Inpatient treatment

Treatment where you are admitted to a hospital bed and stay at least one night.

Inpatient treatment is the part of private medical insurance almost every policy covers, because it is the most expensive and the most predictable. Day-patient treatment — admitted to a bed but discharged the same day — is usually covered on the same basis. Cover applies at the hospitals on your policy’s hospital list, and normally only once the insurer has authorised the treatment in advance.
