    Self-pay

Paying for private treatment directly, without using insurance.

Self-pay patients agree a price with the hospital, often as a fixed package covering the consultant, the facility and any follow-up. It is the alternative to insurance for a one-off procedure, and it is sometimes cheaper than claiming on a policy with a high excess and a no-claims scale. Prices vary considerably between providers and regions, so quotes are worth comparing in writing.
