    Free cover limit

The level of group scheme benefit an insurer will cover without individual medical underwriting.

On group life, group income protection and group critical illness schemes, the insurer prices the whole membership rather than each person. Benefits below the free cover limit are granted automatically; any member whose benefit exceeds it is underwritten individually and may be accepted, loaded, restricted or limited to the free cover level. Limits differ by insurer and move with the size and profile of the scheme, so they should be confirmed in writing for each renewal.
