Which system applies in Belfast
Care here is run by Health and Social Care Northern Ireland rather than by an NHS body, and the Department of Health publishes waiting times statistics. The measures differ again from those used elsewhere in the UK.

What is different about Belfast
- The private market here is small, so appointment availability, not choice of hospital, is usually the constraint.
- Some patients travel to Dublin or to Great Britain; whether that is covered depends entirely on the policy wording.
- Health and social care are run together under the Department of Health rather than by an NHS body.
